England to face Serbia in Euro 2024 Group C opener

The Three Lions will begin their campaign against the Serbians on Sunday 16 June at the VELTINS-Arena in Gelsenkirchen

Serbia's most recent UEFA EURO finals appearance was in 2000 as FR Yugoslavia, when they reached the quarter-finals before losing 6-1 to eventual winners France.

England will face Serbia in their opening match of Euro 2024, it has been confirmed.

The Three Lions will begin their campaign against the Serbians on Sunday 16 June at the VELTINS-Arena in Gelsenkirchen.

It will be the first meeting between the two sides at a major tournament since the 2018 World Cup, when England won 2-1 in the group stage.

Serbia qualified for Euro 2024 by finishing top of their qualifying group, ahead of Scotland, Israel, Norway, Cyprus and Slovenia.

They will be making their fifth appearance at a major tournament, having also played at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups, as well as Euro 2000 and 2008.

England, meanwhile, will be looking to improve on their performance at Euro 2020, where they reached the final but lost to Italy on penalties.

Gareth Southgate's side have been drawn in Group C for Euro 2024, alongside Serbia, Scotland and the Czech Republic.

The Three Lions will be hoping to reach the knockout stages for the fourth time in a row, and will be confident of their chances against Serbia in their opening match.
