On December 24, 1968, Anders took the famous "Earthrise" photo, which shows the Earth rising over the moon's horizon. The photo has become one of the most iconic images in space exploration history.

Anders died in a plane crash on July 26, 2023. He was flying a single-engine plane when it crashed in a remote area of Arizona.

Anders will be remembered as one of the pioneers of space exploration. His iconic "Earthrise" photo helped to change the way we see our place in the universe.
